Boy Clothes

Hi, friends! Last week I did a post about some of my favorites clothes/accessories which you can see here. I thought I'd do a post now about how I dress Lincoln, where I shop for him, and how far in advance I buy his clothes.

I told y'all in the post about my clothes that I don't like to spend a lot of money on clothes, and Lincoln's clothes are no exception. A lot of his clothes I buy at Once Upon a Child which is a store that buys and sells gently used clothing. Their clothes are inexpensive {I buy most shirts for less than $5 and most pants for less than $10}, they never have stains or tears in them, and they never look worn out at all. As far as new clothing goes, I like to shop at Old Navy, Gymboree, Target, Children's Place, Carter's, and Kohl's. I very well may have forgotten somewhere but you get the picture. We shop everywhere.

I buy the bulk of Lincoln's clothes far in advance. For example, right now he has a tub of 3T clothing and a tub of 4T clothing in his closet. He is in 2T clothing right now and he's hit the age where he doesn't grow as fast. When I can find clothes on sale that are a size or two up, I buy them. My mom taught me to do that. The reasoning behind that is that in a year he's going to need 3T and if I wait till the last minute when he NEEDS the new size right now, I'm more likely to pay more money for the clothing. Most of his shirts I pay between $5-$10 because I buy them on sale. Pants I generally don't buy ahead of time because I never know what size he will be in.

Pajamas I always buy early. My thinking is, even if it happens to be big, he's at home. I can always roll pants and sleeves up if I need to.

Another reason to buy cheaper clothes is because he grows out of them fast, and oftentimes they get stained. He's two. Accidents are going to happen, messes are going to happen, and he'll be in the next size before I know it.

So without further ado, Lincoln's closet...

I bought this sweatshirt from Target. It's pretty light which is good because Fernandina doesn't have a whole lot of incredibly cold days. And of course, it's baseball which makes it 10x cuter.
 
I bought these jeans from Target in 3T to try for Linc this Winter. If they happen to not fit him this year, he can always wear them next year. {He usually wears jeans with elastic.}
 
Linc may or may not own 37 plain colored tshirts. They go with shorts in the Summer, jeans and a sweatshirt in the Winter. They're easy to wear and easy to get stains out of. Lincoln also wears them with his bathing suit when we go to the pool and the beach. I'm not going to bore you and post a picture of a long sleeve shirt but Target has a great thermal one here, that I just bought in blue for Lincoln for the Winter. 
 
I've told y'all all about my love for stripes. This shirt is perfect for casual and then can be paired with nicer shorts or jeans for church on Sunday's. Lincoln owns more striped shirts than he owns plain colored, which is saying a lot.
 
Graphic tee's like this are common in Linc's wardrobe. And obviously baseball is a reoccuring theme, too! This shirt, this shirt, and this Mommy shirt are all good options, too. We love baseball and Mommy shirts!
 
As far as shoes go, Lincoln has to wear an extra wide shoe so we only buy shoes online and we only buy New Balance. New Balances never fail as an extra wide shoe. They're super cute, last a long time, aren't too expensive, and they fit good. Because he has to wear an XW, I pay more for shoes. I can't buy them in stores other than Stride Rite, so I buy them online. Lincoln, at all times, has three pairs of shoes. One newer tennis shoe that he wears for occassions when I know they won't get as dirty - church, dinner, running errands. He also has a pair of tennis shoes for playing outside and school that I don't mind if they get dirty because they're older and worn out. When the play shoes get worn out and dirty, the other tennis shoes become the play shoes, and I buy him a new pair of nice tennis shoes. That also allows me to have a backup pair in case one gets ruined spur of the moment. I have to specifically order his shoes, so I can't just run to Target and pick out another pair. Then he has a pair of shoes for the pool or for when I'm lazy and don't want to find matching shoes. We call them his 'Shark shoes' and you'll see why..
 
These are Lincoln's nice shoes right now. He hasn't worn them much yet, but in a few months they will become his play shoes.
 
These are Linc's play shoes right now. I like shoes a lot better with velcro, mainly because I don't have to retie his shoes 68 times a day.
 
These are Lincoln's 'Shark shoes'. He loves them and they're quick to get on. He has definitely gotten our money's worth out of these this Summer, and still wears them now.

Thankful Thursday

So last Sunday I completely realized that I forgot all about my thankful Thursday post, so for that I am so very sorry! But today I remembered.. So here you go!

I'm thankful for Fernandina Beach High School. I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of my senior year and I could not have begun to ask for more supportive faculty. My principal worked it out to where I wouldn't have to do online schooling and she pushed real hard for me to be able to graduate with my class. My teachers let me come up to the school while I was sick/just after I had Linc to get my work so that I wouldn't get too far behind. Some let me take tests at home. One of my teachers sent me a congratulatory text on the morning Lincoln was born and another visited me in the hospital. I was so very blessed by these people and I'll never be able to thank them enough for their acceptance, grace, and generosity. They were a Godsend in a very hard time and they are a huge blessing in my life.

I'm thankful for Lincoln's school. Linc started school last week and he loves it. I'm so thankful that I have the money to send him there and that he has so much fun. His teachers are wonderful and so is the principal. It makes me so happy to see him so happy there.

I'm thankful for the way that God puts desires and passion on our hearts. God didn't mean for this life to be dreary and boring. He gives us all different passions and things that we have a heart for. I'm starting to see mine more and more and I'm thankful for that.

I'm thankful for my brother. {Who will be here tonight!!!!} He is a blessing and a gift to me and Linc and I couldn't ask for a better brother.

I'm thankful for the weather cooling off. We've had a few cool days lately, and it's been so wonderful. Although in the middle of the day it's still incredibly hot, the mornings are cool enough that Lincoln and I can play outside for a little bit.

I'm thankful for pumpkin spice at Starbucks. I tend to wait to buy anything from Starbucks until I get a gift card but when I found out that pumpkin spice was back, I had to go get a latte! Pumpkin spice is wonderful and it deserves to be celebrated!

I have so much to be thankful for, but this is what I'm especially thankful for this week. What are you thankful for??

Meet the Fussell's

Good morning, friends! If you've been following my blog for any length of time you've probably noticed that I change the name of the blog... A lot.
 
And I'm so sorry. It's just that I could never think of what I really wanted it to be.
 
And to be honest, I've always wanted it to be something that Lincoln said. Something catchy that would encompass who I am and what this blog is about.
 
So here's the story behind 'Momma Fussell' and hopefully it will stay that way.
 
If you ask Lincoln what his name is, he'll tell you 'Linc'. So I've been working hard on teaching him his last name, 'Fussell'. So we went through the names in our family and talked about everyone's name and finally {during a lovely power outage in our home} he got it!
 
So it's time for my wonderful readers to meet my wonderful family!
 
This is 'Papa Fussell'. {My dad}

This is 'Uncle Pearce Fussell'. {My brother}

His last name is actually Thornton and he's never been a Fussell, but Lincoln sees him as a Fussell, so there you go!

She's actually a Thornton now, but Linc still sees her as a Fussell.

Back to School Printable

Can I just say that I fell in love with this quickly?! You send the list to school with your child's teacher and they send it back filled out. It helps with any possible gifts you may give the teacher over the course of the year. Now I'm new to this whole school thing this year, so I hadn't even begun to think of anything like this. So thank you, Mel, for making this adorable list!

My Breakfast Date

I went on a date yesterday. And it was the sweetest of dates.

Lincoln was sick all weekend and I was really hoping {because he loves school so much} that he would be well enough by yesterday morning to go to school. He asked a few times this weekend and once on Monday if he could go to school, and it made me so sad to tell him no.

Monday morning brought cool weather and wind and Lincoln was loving being able to play outside again.

So I decided to make up for not being able to go to school on Monday and because the weather was so wonderful, I'd take him downtown for breakfast. You see, I get SO excited when the weather is 80 or below. Lincoln and I really dislike the heat, so we haven't played outside much lately. So we headed downtown to get a muffin at our favorite coffee shop downtown {that will, by the way, always be Seattle's Best to me!}

We shared a chocolate muffin and Lincoln got to experience his first YooHoo and he loved it {but who doesn't?!}
 
Then we walked down to the docks to see the boats and Lincoln wanted to hold my hand! {If you know Linc, you know he never holds hands.}
 
 
 
 
There was a storm coming so I figured it would be a good time to leave. We started walking back down the docks when I saw a rainbow. I got to tell Lincoln about how rainbows are God's promise to never flood the earth again.
 
I consider myself incredibly blessed to live on an island that most people want to vacation on. I mean, that's just awesome that God would bless me to live here. Linc and I can be at the beach or on the docks within five minutes. It was such a wonderful morning full of wonderful weather, muffins, piggyback rides, beautiful water, and the most handsome boy I've ever met. It's these simple moments that I realize how blessed I am to have him, and how precious this time with him is. I'm so thankful God chose me to be his mom! I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

Happy Sunday!

Good morning, friend!

Right now I have a Fall candle burning, my peppermint mocha iced coffee just finished brewing, and I'm playing stickers with my sweet, handsome angel who just happens to have a bad cold. And even though we got no sleep last night, life is so good and so precious.

Here in Fernandina it's only 79 degrees! We've gone below 80 and I am so excited! {Despite the fact that weather.com says it feels like 84, I'm happy.}

I hope you have a wonderful morning and that you find God's blessings all around you today! You are His special possession, and He loves you immensely.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. {1 Peter 2:9}

I'm Content

I love my life.

I love being a single mom.

I love being Lincoln's mom.

I'm content where God has placed me.

But it's not always easy.

And honestly, God has been working on my heart about this for a while. My life isn't perfect. There are things I wish that were different. I wish that my college degree was finished and that I was already working full time as a nurse. But here's the kicker.. I can't be focused on that. Why? Because obviously that isn't what God has for me now. God has placed me here in this moment to be Lincoln's mom, his 20 year old single mom. And honestly, that is a gift! That is a precious, wonderful, incredibly awesome gift from God. I'm blessed to be his mom, despite being a single mom and being young.

If this is the season that God has for me, then this is where I will stay until He calls me somewhere else.

I think it is so easy to look ahead to the future and wish and hope and pray that we could be there now. It's so easy to want so badly for things to be different. And sometimes our seasons are seasons of pain or hurt, and those are difficult seasons! But it doesn't change the fact that God has called us to be there. And looking back on the past three years of finding out I was pregnant and giving birth to Lincoln, I know that God has a plan. I went through seasons of incredible sadness, I went through seasons of lonliness, I went through seasons of exhaustion {that might be a constant one!}, and yet God has stayed faithful, God has kept His promises.

I'm here to tell you today, friend, there is hope! He has a plan, a great divine plane, but sometimes His greatest plans come from hurt and pain. And in all honesty, He usually uses our hurts, pain, and difficult seasons to minister to others. I can honestly say that I'm content where I am. Am I excited for the future and excited to see where God takes Lincoln and me? Of course I am! But I'm staying where He wants me, and resting on His grace to get me through every day.

So what season has God put you in? Because I can tell you that He has a plan through it all. Stay in Him, love Him more, and learn to be content with where you are. He has blessings for you every day, you just have to see them!

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength. {Philippians 4:11-13}

A Few of my Favorites

Hi friends! It's been a couple days and I'm working on a few things for y'all coming up this weekend and next week. If you haven't gotten to check out how Lincoln's first day of school went, click here.

When I began this blog, I honestly didn't know what all I would write about and I prayed about it quite a bit. Should I post strictly about my beliefs? Should I post only about Lincoln? Should I post about school? Should I post clothing/fashion on there? {That was a question I had for a long time.} And the answer I got was this, "Post what you're passionate about. It's not about how many viewers or followers you have, it's about posting what you love and glorifying Me." So there you have it, I'm going to be random and I'm going to post about what I love and above all else, I'm going to make sure every message I have glorifies God! I hope by posting all sorts of different things {family life, my beliefs, college, fashion, random thoughts} I can appeal to all different types of readers, and hopefully everyone will enjoy at least one thing on here! Besides, who doesn't love a post about cute wedges and scarves?

So here's the thing.. I really enjoy blogs about fashion and clothing, but I often find myself reading blogs about clothing/shoes/jewelry from stores I don't step foot in, much less buy anything from {Ahem, Nordstrom}. I'm in college and looking to save as much money as possible while still dressing cute and buying something once in a while! So I hope you'll be able to read this and see how dressing can be cute and affordable at the same time! With that being said, my favorite stores to shop in are Target, Charming Charlie's, LOFT and Gap. LOFT and Gap prices are much more affordable at the outlet stores, so usually I skip those stores while at the mall and tend to buy a lot more when we go to St. Augustine for a shopping trip. I also LOVE Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Burlington Coat Factory. Those stores have brand names for cheap which is what I love. I'm a firm believer that you can dress cute without going broke!
 
 
Believe me when I say, you need these wedges. I love wedges, and these from Target are my favorite pair that I own. They're cute, they go with everything, and they are incredibly comfortable. I like heels, but I can't stand to wear them because they kill my feet. Even I enjoy wearing these and can stand them for long periods of time. {That's saying something, friends!} AND they're only $20. Buy them now, thank me later.
 
Can I say something? I really dislike lipstick. And on top of that, I rarely wear makeup. When I found this stuff, I was amazed. It's lip balm but I use it for my lip color, and I use it every day. The color in the picture I use for lip balm and for a light color that you can barely see. I keep one tube in my car and one in my house. I also own the pink and red {which I rarely use}. And it's only $3.
 
I bought a pair of boots incredibly similar to this a couple weeks ago. I can't find them online anymore but these {which are the same brand as mine} are really similar. In the Fall/Winter, I wear jeans tucked into boots almost every day. Last year on Black Friday I bought a pair of brown boots and wore them so much that by the end of the cold weather, I had marks where I had worn them out. {That's saying a lot.} So when it comes to boots, I'm willing to spend a little extra because I know I will get my money's worth out of them.
 
I got this scarf for $15 and the bracelet for $10, both from Charming Charlie's. If you've never checked Charming Charlie's out, I highly recommend it. I'm all about a good deal, and it seems so are they! This infinity scarf goes with everything so I'll definitely be getting my money's worth out of it. I had been looking for bracelets and this one seemed perfect. If you need jewelry, head over to Charming Charlie's. They always have some sort of sale going on, and if you sign up for emails they're always sending out coupons.
 
I'm not a huge fan of skinny jeans. In fact, I only wear them when I wear my boots. But I figured that if I was going to be wearing those boots in the next few months, I needed some jeans to wear with them. All American Eagle Jeans are $30 right now. I also bought the 'heritage medium' wash, which you can find here. If you're looking to buy these online and you happen to shop at Loft, I wear a size 0 in loft and bought a size 4 in these. These are geared towards teenagers, they run small. Plus they're skinny jeans and let's face it, my legs are not skinny enough to fit into a 0 or 2!
 
This shirt from Gap is really basic and goes with so much. I bought the navy/white one but all three colors are cute. Throw on this shirt, my scarf, jeans, and boots and I've got a seriously cute and easily put together outfit! {Great for playing with my son at the park in the Winter}
 
This is my beloved tortoise shell watch, and I'll admit, I paid around $80 for it. BUT I LOVE IT. Did you see how that deserved capital letters?? I wear it probably half of the times that I dress up. I've had this watch for about a year and have definitely gotten my money out of it! I'm a big watch person, I almost always wear a watch, so I felt okay spending extra on a watch I really loved. This watch seems to have gone up in price {from everywhere I've looked on the Internet} but if you Google 'tortoise shell watches' I'm sure you can find the same one or a different one just as cute! Believe me when I say, it goes with everything.

Lincoln's First Day of School!!!

First and foremost, what an awesome blessing it is to be able to allow Lincoln to go to school. I am SO grateful to God that He has financially provided for me to be able to pay for a Christian school. He is so good!

With that said, onto my sweet angel's first day of school!!!!

I spent all last week signing papers, copying papers, picking out our first day of school outfits {yes, I made sure I had a cute one, too!}, making things like shirts and signs, and being anxious to see how my baby did on his first day!

I got this idea on Pinterest of putting your child's graduation year on a large shirt and seeing how they get bigger through the years. Linc's is a men's size medium and this is the best picture I got of it. {You'll see why when you scroll down.}
 
 
And of course, I had a candle lit.
 
I got this idea from Pinterest and from friends on Facebook whose kids have gone to school where their teachers have done this with the children. I will also be doing a last day of school.

On Monday morning we slept till seven. SEVEN, y'all! We never sleep that late! I told you that boy is an angel! We got out of bed and went to the kitchen to make chocolate chip muffins {a very important first day of school tradition}, and then played for a little while. After playtime and muffins we got ready and took pictures.. And guess what. They turned out GOOD!

See what I meant? At first he hated it. You can see here that the shirt reaches his ankles, and when standing still it dragged the ground.

From 8:00 - 8:45 little man begged to go to school. He was SO excited!

We went in to meet his teachers {who I knew already and they are just the sweetest!} and play in the classroom before I had orientation at 9:30. Linc did so great. He played with cars and trains and tractors. He played by himself but made sure I was close by. The only time he cried was when I walked out, so I'm hoping and praying that Wednesday he does okay with me leaving him. Orientation was 30 minutes and then I got to go pick him up at 10. A short day, but it was good for him to go and get excited.

This is Lincoln's hook outside his classroom door. Linc LOVES the frog. The principal who is a family friend of ours said that they're going to take pictures of the kids and put it above their names. How cute is that!

After school we went to see Papa and Geesh and tell them about his big day. Then we had lunch at The Loop together. Then we went downtown and played and ran around.

So we had a wonderful day! And tomorrow is Linc's first full day of school! I'm sure he will do great! He seems so happy in his class and I can't wait to enjoy this school year with my big boy!
